I’m going to work on learning PHP, so expect a login-system or some kind of social network on henryhwilson.com in the near future.
Also, I plan on moving this blog to “blog.henryhwilson.com” so stay tuned!

Earlier today, the long awaited Bing, made by Microsoft, was released. Bing is a search engine, replacing Live Search, which did not have popular views. After trying out Bing for a few minutes, I realized that it was much better than my expectations. Here are a few advantages of the new search engine:
1. Travel - Bing features a built-in flight finder, which tracks the cheapest tickets, and shows charts of previous prices to help you predict the time to buy.
2. Maps - While Safari and Firefox on Macs aren’t officially supported, I found it easy to get a “birds-eye” view of my apartment: features include zoom in, out, rotate, etc. Although it was great quality, and I can’t wait to see the 3D feature which only works on PCs, I have to say Google Maps wins in this one, as Macs are supported with Google.
3. Images - Similar to other search engine image clients. Notable features included similar images, which shows images similar to the one selected.
4. Related Searches - While in search results, a “related” bar appears on the left, guiding you towards your destination. This feature is okay but not really useful.
All in all, this could be a good replacement for google, but the widespread use of google is hard to beat. Although Bing might be a better, more useful search engine, Google is so popular that it doesn’t matter. The world already has a “perfect” browser. At least it supports Macs…

WolframAlpha, (www.wolframalpha.com) a new search-and-find engine, was just launched recently. WA uses complex algorithms to translate what you type in the search box into code which is translated into an output.
After experimenting a bit with it, I noticed a few flaws. The first was that WolframAlpha doesn’t search within a search. (e.g., type in President of the U.S., you get Obama. Type in age of obama, you get his age. Type in age of president of the U.S., and WA wigs out and doesn’t understand.) The next flaw is translations. You simply can’t type in “hello in french.” The last flaw is that this is not a replacement for google or wikipedia: WA does not give information on a general topic, but more an answer for a question.
Here is what happened when I asked my age: “age henry wilson”

Update: Tuvalu was granted independence by the U.K. in 1978: http://tr.im/mnMq
Tuvalu, an island near and owned by New Zealand, has been apparantly sinking for years. Tuvalu is known mainly for its .tv domain, and this causes worrying from .tv owners worldwide. The sinking is said to be caused by global warming, and could be completely submerged in water in as little as 50 years. This small time frame is partly due to its current average height: six feet above sea level.
Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand says: “We’ll try and maintain our own way of living on the island as long as we can. If the time comes we should leave the islands, there is no other choice but to leave.”
Kiribati and the Marshall Islands are also prone to this same fate. We will see what happens in the decades to come.
U.S. Confirmed Cases: 5,700 (as of this post)
U.S. Confirmed Deaths: 8 (as of this post)
U.S. Other Flu Deaths per year: 30,000
The Swine Flu, or H1N1 Influenza, is way too overrated. Just by looking at these numbers, you can tell that this is not a big deal. In New York City, many schools have closed for fear of the virus. Many of these schools closed because they thought that they had the Swine Flu. It turned out to be “just the flu.” If you think that a large killer of people in the U.S. is “just the flu,” that what do you expect the Swine Flu, with *8* deaths to be? To me, in the context it is on par with a Sinus Infection.
The Swine Flu is not a pandemic, but purely another flu to add to our long list of other types of the flu. And, at some point, we will find a vaccine anyway, even though we don’t need it. I can understand that the schools are taking precautions, but really, they need to toughen up. My school, which is one-hundred years old, has closed from a snow-day twice.
