Tuvalu, Home of .tv, is Slowly Submerging

Update: Tuvalu was granted independence by the U.K. in 1978: http://tr.im/mnMq

Tuvalu, an island near and owned by New Zealand, has been apparantly sinking for years. Tuvalu is known mainly for its .tv domain, and this causes worrying from .tv owners worldwide. The sinking is said to be caused by global warming, and could be completely submerged in water in as little as 50 years. This small time frame is partly due to its current average height: six feet above sea level.

Deputy Prime Minister of New Zealand says: “We’ll try and maintain our own way of living on the island as long as we can. If the time comes we should leave the islands, there is no other choice but to leave.”

Kiribati and the Marshall Islands are also prone to this same fate. We will see what happens in the decades to come.
