Bing: Better Than Expected

Earlier today, the long awaited Bing, made by Microsoft, was released. Bing is a search engine, replacing Live Search, which did not have popular views. After trying out Bing for a few minutes, I realized that it was much better than my expectations. Here are a few advantages of the new search engine:

1. Travel - Bing features a built-in flight finder, which tracks the cheapest tickets, and shows charts of previous prices to help you predict the time to buy.

2. Maps - While Safari and Firefox on Macs aren’t officially supported, I found it easy to get a “birds-eye” view of my apartment: features include zoom in, out, rotate, etc. Although it was great quality, and I can’t wait to see the 3D feature which only works on PCs, I have to say Google Maps wins in this one, as Macs are supported with Google.

3. Images - Similar to other search engine image clients. Notable features included similar images, which shows images similar to the one selected.

4. Related Searches - While in search results, a “related” bar appears on the left, guiding you towards your destination. This feature is okay but not really useful.

All in all, this could be a good replacement for google, but the widespread use of google is hard to beat. Although Bing might be a better, more useful search engine, Google is so popular that it doesn’t matter. The world already has a “perfect” browser. At least it supports Macs…
